Hamilton: Daniel Carter slotted 17 points with his boot as the All Blacks extended their unbeaten run against Wales to 23 games with a 29-10 victory at Waikato Stadium Saturday.

Carter slotted five penalties and a conversion of Cory Jane's first-half try, while replacement flyhalf Aaron Cruden scored his maiden test try in the final minute before Piri Weepu's conversion completed the scoring of a stop-start encounter.

Seeking a first win over the All Blacks in 57 years, Wales winger Leigh Halfpenny had scored an early long-range penalty before centre Jamie Roberts grabbed a consolation try, converted by Stephen Jones, in the final three minutes.

Meanwhile in Cape Town, Morne Steyn scored the first 20 points and finishes with 26 overall as South Africa overrun Italy 55-11 yesterday in the second rugby union Test.

Flyhalf Steyn crossed for two tries and kicked two penalties and five conversions to guide the Springboks to a 2-0 series win. The Springboks had a subdued 29-13 win in last week's first Test.

The Springboks rounded off preparation for their Tri-Nations title defense by crossing for three tries in the first half and four in the second.

For Italy, Mirco Bergamasco landed two first-half penalties and winger Michele Sepe chased a David Gower grubber kick into the in-goal and was awarded a try in the right corner in the 65th minute.

In Melbourne, Luke Burgess and Quade Cooper scored the only tries as Australia rebounded from their narrow loss to England last week with a scrappy 22-15 Test victory over Ireland.

Scrumhalf Burgess and flyhalf Cooper scored in the first half for the Wallabies, while Cooper also slotted two penalties.

Inside centre Matt Giteau scored the only points of the second half when he kicked two penalties for the Wallabies.

Ireland flyhalf Jonathan Sexton kicked five first-half penalties for the visitors, who also lost to the All Blacks and New Zealand Maori in their June internationals.
