Dubai: Mohammad Al Musharrakh turned in a brilliant performance to win the UAE Nationals Monthly Medal at the Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting and Golf Club, the venue of the recent Mena Tour Championship.

Striking the ball sweetly, Al Musharrakh carded 44 points, including 24 on the front nine, to take the day's honours, a good four points ahead of Ali Ahmad. Rashid Al Suwaidi finished third with 38 points.

Abdullah Al Marzouqi and Humaid Al Mazroa also made it to the podium, winning their respective divisions. Al Marzouqi made 37 points in Division A (0-14 handicap) while Al Mazroa emerged victorious in Division B (15-28 handicap) with 35 points.

The first of the five-event series, which concludes in April next year, saw 25 Emirati golfers battle it out for winning early points on the Order of Merit.

Solid round

The day certainly belonged to Al Musharrakh, whose three sons — Abdullah, Ahmad and Hassan — are part of the UAE national team. Picking up points on every hole, Al Musharrakh strung together a solid round in the individual stableford format with a full handicap.

Saeed Al Budoor, general manager of the Emirates Golf Federation (EGF), who featured in the field himself, said: "We had a good turn out and the scores too were impressive. We can expect even better performances when the race for the Order of Merit picks up pace. I would like to thank players and the Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting and Golf Club for their support in making the event a great success."
