Dubai: Kwestura, from Ajman Stud, claimed top honours at the Dubai International Arabian Horse Championship (DIAHC) which drew to an exciting conclusion at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre on Saturday.

Kwestura, bought at the 2008 Pride of Poland auction by Shaikh Ammar Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman and owner of one of the most spectacular collections of Arabian horses in the world, was given a top score by all six judges to be crowned Senior Female Champion.

The reigning world champion, Kwestura beat top competition from the Dubai Arabian Horse Stud's Ladi Veronika, who was adjudged runner-up, and stable companion Badawieh AA, the bronze winner.

Kwestura was at Michalow State Stud in Poland by Ignacy Jaworowski, one of the most talented and successful breeders in the world, who is a winner of the Breeding Oscar — the Trophy granted by Arabian Horse Trust of America for outstanding breeding achievements.

Al Lahab, meaning ‘the flame' in Arabic, claimed the top prize in the Senior Male Championship category with all but one of the seven judges giving him a high score. A straight Egyptian who was a winner of the prestigious European Junior Champion Stallion category at Europe's Egyptian Event, Al Lahab was purchased by the Friedmann Family of Germany, who own a straight Egyptian breeding program. He is present owned by Hansjuergen and Inge Friedmann and is based in Germany.

Baanderos, owned by Prince Khalid Bin Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud from Saudi Arabia, picked by the silver rosette with stable companion Moutaz Al Biwaibiya taking the bronze in a highly competitive event.

The Championship was organised under the auspices of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance, both of whom attended the final day of the competition.
