Jeddah to make powerboating event a hit
A top promoter of the UIM has promised the best fare ever when Asia plays host to the final two rounds of the UIM Formula 2000 World Powerboat Series.
Dubai: A top promoter of the UIM has promised the best fare ever when Asia plays host to the final two rounds of the UIM Formula 2000 World Powerboat Series.
"We want to show the world what Asia is all about," UIM F2000 promoter Abdul Salam Fayrooz of Formula World Sports (FWS) told Gulf News after announcing details of the last two rounds on the world championship here late on Wednesday.
The next round of the ambitious UIM F2000 World Cup Series will be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on October 7-8, while the final round will be staged in Sabah, Malaysia from December 12-14.
"It is not every time that we get top sports events like F2000 racing in the region. Saudi Arabia did a fantastic job of staging a round last year and I am sure they will do an even better job this time," Fayrooz stated.
The UIM promoter further stated that the F2000 series has got a new golden sponsor for the next two seasons in Dubai-based Gulf General Investment Company (GGICO).
"It is due to corporates like GGICO that our youth stand to benefit by being exposed to a completely new sport," Fayrooz stated.
"This part of the world is passionate about the water and the challenges it poses. I am happy that a part of the world series is being held here," added nine-time world F1 powboat champion Guido Cappellini of the Tamoil team from Italy.
