Abu Dhabi: The 8th edition of the Ghantoot Gold Cup Polo championship has been enlarged with five teams instead of the usual four taking part in the 10-day event.

Organised by the Ghantoot Racing and Polo Club under the patronage of Shaikh Falah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, this year's event will see the debut of two teams from Dubai to add to the excitement of this prestigious annual event.

The participating teams in this medium-goal event are Ghantoot A, Ghantoot B, Team Emirates, Al Nimr Team and Dubai Plantation Team.

Round-robin

The defending champions Ghantoot A will be represented by Nasser Al Shamsi (2), Nasser Al Dhaheri (0), Juan Ramon (4) and Fernando Quinto (6).

The hosts B team will be led by Ahmad Bin Desmal with Ali Al Merri (both 0-goal players) along with Oscar Colombres (5) and Carlos Mayon (6). Dubai's Al Nimr, which is in fact the Al Habtoor team, have Rodolfo Ducos (6) and Justo Del Carril (5) along with Rashid Al Habtoor and Mohammad Al Habtoor.

UAE nationals Khalifa Al Hammadi and Ahmad Al Nuaimi team up with Agustin Scopsi Wulf (4) and David Bernal (6) for the 10-goal Team Emirates while Dubai Plantation will be represented by James Harper (6), Fhiser (4), Nick (1) and Arthur (0).

Starting today the teams will play a round-robin league with the top teams advancing to the final.

Only the Dubai Plantation and Al Nimr match will be played at Dubai Polo Club tomorrow with all other matches to be played at the GRPC fields.
