Dubai : The Arabian Gulf team has a reason to smile after their spirited performances, in three matches, on the first day of the Emirates airline's Dubai Rugby Sevens.
"We definitely wanted to win today and we made a good start, but we have also identified a few errors and we need to work on these for our matches tomorrow," former AGRFU skipper Sean Hurley said.
"We had a great start against Kenya and then we came up with another fine showing in the match against Wales," he added.
The Arabian Gulf had a dream start yesterday when they led mighty Kenya 14-0 at one stage. But the Kenyans fought back to win 31-19. World champions Samoa then pounded the Gulf side 54-12 and then Wales came up with a strong showing to win 47-5, but not before the Arabian Gulf youngsters scored their try in the very final seconds of the match.
Giving it all
"I am pleased with the never-say-die attitude of the whole team," skipper Taif Al Delamie said.
"We gave it our all out there and we looked very strong whenever we had the ball with us. We have proved today that we are a team that can do some damage to some of the big teams," Al Delamie added.
With three losses, the Arabian Gulf will today be among the eight lower division teams contesting for the Bowl and Shield competitions. Today is bound to be an emotional moment for the Arabian Gulf as it will be for the very last time that they will be competing under the AGRFU banner..."
