Dubai: Two of the riders from this weekend's Red Bull X-Fighters Dubai 2011 motocross competition have vowed to go all out for victory in the season-opener at The Walk at Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR).

"I am here to win," American Lance Coury told Gulf News after a practice session at the specially set-up track on the beach.

"I am aware the other competitors are more seasoned than I am, but that will not stop me from going all out and proving what I am capable of."

The Dubai round sees 12 of the best names in the world of FMX descend here this weekend. Leading the stars will be defending champion Nate Adams from the USA along with countryman Adam ‘The Destroyer' Jones and 21-year-old Coury, who is of Lebanese descent.

"My roots are in Lebanon, but I doubt that will give me any sort of advantage competing in Dubai," Coury said. "I am up against some great riders and the focus will be to give off my best and have a great time on the track."

The biggest challenge before the Americans will be a quartet of riders from Down Under led by the experienced Robbie Maddison, who ended sixth overall in the 2010 standings.

Each for himself

"I am here against all the guys," Maddison said. "There is no teamwork here. It's each one for himself as everyone will be trying to win and open the season on a bright note."

The Yamaha YZ250 rider, who turns 30 later this year, is returning from a series of accidents and surgery.

"It was one misfortune after another that kept me away for six months," he said.

"So I really don't know what the other riders have been up to during that time. But my intention is to go out there with a lot of energy and take on the best."

Held under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman, Dubai Sports Council (DSC), the Dubai leg of the Red Bull X-Fighters is the first of six rounds that will take the participating riders to Brasilia (Brazil), Rome (Italy), Madrid (Spain), Warsaw (Poland) and the finally Australia.

Created in 2001, Red Bull X-Fighters has grown to become one of the biggest and most respected freestyle motocross tours featuring the world's best riders in stunning locations.
