Abu Dhabi: The Automobile and Touring Club of the UAE (ATCUAE) is taking extra precautions ahead of this weekend’s Etihhad Airways Abu Dhabi Formula One Grand Prix by partnering with one of the Middle East’s premier fire safety organisations.

The event’s organisers have teamed up with AssetCo Fire and Rescue to provide emergency pit lane response in a move directed to avoid incidentssuch as this year’s garage fire at Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona. AssetCo will volunteer two 10-man teams of qualified firefighters for the Abu Dhabi showpiece, taking place at the Yas Marina Circuit, from November 2-4. One of the teams will be stationed in the main pitlane to provide fire coverage for the F1 race, while the other team will be on standby in the support pit.

Mohammad Bin Sulayem, president of the ATCUAE and vice-president of the FIA, said: “Our focus on safety is always paramount when delivering any motorsport event, and we are delighted to welcome onboard the volunteer services of AssetCo for this year’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Each year when we organise the Grand Prix, we look to improve in different areas, and having such a professional organisation onboard in 2012 will be a great step forward in our fire cover.”
