Abu Dhabi: Verva Racing will be hoping for a fast weekend from its cars as the 2011 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup concludes with the last two races at the Yas Marina Circuit.

Verva driver Kuba Giermaziak is stuck between two Veltins Lechner Racing drivers in second place in the championship table.

Current leader Rene Rast of Germany looks comfortable at the top of the drivers' standings with 141 points, his Austrian teammate Norbert Siedler in third with 122 — just two points separating him from Giermaziak in second position.

However, Damian Raciniewski, co-owner of Verva Racing, is not too perturbed with this state of affairs.

"We have far exceeded our goals with our current position in the standings," Raciniewski told Gulf News yesterday.

‘Baby steps'

His primary concern was that his driver is a novice on the demanding Yas Marina Circuit.

"He has never tested or raced here before," Raciniewski said.

"So for him it is like baby steps and I feel confident he will be able to achieve yet another of our goals for this season."

Raciniewski is a Polish hero.

He has been credited with much of the success of some of the modern-day Polish sportsman: footballers Robert Levandowski of Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund and national team Maciez Zurawski, along with driver Giermaziak are among his discoveries.

"I think the secret of our success is that we have a good driver with a fantastic team backing him," he said.

In yesterday's qualifying Giermaziak's job become even more difficult after he finished tenth while Rast and Siedler finished in second and fourth respectively.

"I knew this would not be my favourite track as there are certain sections that are so tight. But tomorrow is a brand new day and things can work out in our favour," Giermaziak said.

Both Rast and Siedler were thrilled with their qualifying slots.

Good option

"First row is a good option to go towards our goal of win the double," Rast said.

"A first and second spot for us in the championship looks probable with today's qualifying positions. Everything seems to have worked out in our favour," Siedler added.

The first race, consisting of 14 laps, will be held from 3.25pm today with the second one over the same distance from 2.25pm tomorrow.

The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, featuring limited edition Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars, has been supporting Formula One since 1993.
