Abu Dhabi: Youngsters in the UAE are hoping to rule at Yas Marina Circuit next week, in the same vein as Lewis Hamilton and company at the Formula One Etihad Airways Grand Prix.

Fusion F1, a collaboration between Team Tachyon (UAE) and Renaissance Racing (Ireland), is taking part in the F1 in Schools Championship for miniature racing cars.

Between November 16 and 19 — a few days before the grand prix — the team’s car will battle it out with worldwide entries on a 20-metre track in approximately one second, with speeds rivalling those of F1 cars.

The competition requires students to form teams to design and manufacture 200-millimetre, carbon dioxide-powered cars to be in with a chance of winning the Bernie Ecclestone Trophy and automotive engineering scholarships to City University in London.

Team leader, Arjun Dave, said he was confident of victory.

He said: “As Fusion F1, we are confident in our potential as one team. Together we shall proudly bear the flags for the UAE and Ireland at the 2014 world finals in Abu Dhabi and hope that we create history by being the first collaborated team to win.”

Fusion F1 has signed sponsorship contracts with Network International, Al Tayer Motors, Mashreq Bank, Servcorp and Emax Electronics in the UAE to help with manufacturing and marketing expenses.

The team has a website at www.fusion-f1.org and Facebook and Twitter pages at www.facebook.com/F1fusion and www.twitter.com/f1_fusion respectively.
