Dubai: The President of the Automobile and Touring Club for UAE (ATCUAE) is heavily in favour of bringing forward the Dubai International Baja by at least a week to ensure a better participation in the annual event.

The second edition of the Dubai International Baja will be held this weekend with a full field of 88 drivers and riders from around the world flagged off on Thursday evening from the new headquarters of the baja at Dubai Autodrome.

“There is no doubt that the season-opening Dakar Rally and the Dubai International Baja complement each other, but we feel it would be better if we could advance the event by a week so that we can have a better field of entrants to our event,” Mohammad Bin Sulayem, ATCUAE President and President of Emirates Motor Sport Federation (EMSF) and FIA Vice President for sport told Gulf News.

“We are protective of our events, but we need to speak to each other and communicate with each other to ensure both events do not suffer due the logistics involved. We are always trying to improve, and perhaps the solution could be having our event one week before so that our drivers, riders and officials do not suffer in the harsh outdoors in the desert,” Bin Sulayem added.
