Manama: Buoyed by back-to-back wins in the support races at the Formula One Bahrain Grand Prix last weekend, recently crowned Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East champion Jeffrey Schmidt now has his sites set on Europe.

Al Nabooda Racing duo Schmidt and Zaid Ashkanani took first and second in both exhibition races ahead of Sunday’s Bahrain Grand Prix, giving them valuable international exposure — but Schmidt doesn’t want to stop there.

“It was amazing to race in the F1 support race, there were lots of spectators and the atmosphere was incredible,” he said. “Just being on the same track as the F1 drivers was great and made me want to win my races even more.

“This has been the perfect start to my summer season, I will be driving in Germany next in the Porsche Carrera Cup, I came P3 last year overall so I will be going for title this year, trying to replicate my result in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East. I will then be going on to compete in the Porsche Supercup, I will be representing Lechner Racing, and after a strong performance last year we will be challenging for the title as we do in every championship and hopefully with the form I have hit in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge I can achieve more of my goals in 2016 in Europe.”
