Abu Dhabi: Hisham Salah won the ‘King of the Street’ title after accruing the highest points tally in the Yas Street Challenge over the course of the season. This title made him richer by Dh10,000 prize, in addition to the prize money won in the past races.

The UAE’s urban street racers flocked to the final round of Yas Super Street Challenge as drivers faced off on Yas Marina Circuit’s drag strip on Friday.

After a hugely successful Yas Super Street Challenge season, where both driver and spectator numbers have grown, motor sport enthusiasts and drivers witnessed the UAE’s top racers go head to head to compete for Dh40,000 in cash prizes and the chance to take home the ‘King of the Streets’ title.

Over the two days of competition racers clashed in five distinct categories – ‘4x4 Super Street SUV’; ‘Index 11.5’; ‘Index 10.5’; ‘Super Street’ and ‘Super Street – Open Category’.

Speaking shortly after his win, Salah said: “It’s the second year I have won the ‘King of the Streets’ title as I was lucky enough to win last year too. It has been great to see so many people, both fans and drivers, involved in the Yas Super Street Challenge and the series is growing year on year. I must thank Yas Marina Circuit as they do a great job of putting on the series.”

After a tightly-fought contest, the ‘Super Street Open Category’ was won by Waleed Ahmad, who took home the top prize of Dh15,000. Coming in second and taking home the AED 10,000 cash prize was Mohammad Ali Ahmadand Mourgi Al Kothari finished third place securing him AED 5,000.

The category of ‘Super Street’ was also closely contested, but Salah clinched first place, with second and third place awarded to Salem Mohammad Said and Taleb Muhammad, respectively. The precision challenge demanded by the ‘Index 10.5’ category saw Fadi Tmour beat Hisham Al Khateb to win, with Ahmad Abd Al Rahman following closely in third, and in the ‘Index 11.5’ category top prize was awarded to Josi Koto with Waleed Al Yafi and Adel Al Ganem finishing second and third.

The final category, proving very popular with the fans, was the ‘4x4 Super Street SUV’ category. Madjed Al Koumiti finished in first place, pipping Mohammad Al Mshgouni and Salem Bilal Mbarak to second and third, respectively.

Our aim was to give the community a safe and professional environment in which to race and we are proud to say that’s what we have achieve through the season and we look forward to watching it grow in years to come.”
