Dubai: Saeed Al Mehairi was one of the stars at the recent Dubai Motorsport Festival, when he powered his 400 horsepower SkyDive Dubai Falcon Racing Team Porsche to second place in the Porsche GT3 Cup Middle East championship race.

Now less than a week later, Al Mehairi will slip into a 10-horsepower kart and take part in the Kartdrome 12 Hours, the first round of the 2014 Endurance Championship driven by Mini which gets underway at noon on Friday,

Al Mehairi was asked how he changes from brute Porsche power to the finesse of the Sodi RX7 karts used for the endurance races at the Kartdrome.

He said: “It might seem that it is not easy changing from a Porsche Cup car to a SWS kart, but trust me if you are into racing it doesn’t matter which car you jump into. It will take you one or two laps and you adapt to what you are driving. For me it doesn’t make a big difference.”

On Friday, free practice begins at 9.30am, followed by qualifying at 10.45 am and the race set to be flagged off at noon, Entry to the Kartdrome is free for spectators on the day.
