Abu Dhabi: Mexican Sergio Perez, who makes the huge leap from the GP2 series to Formula One next year, is looking forward to his trip to Abu Dhabi next month.

The Barwa Addax GP2 driver who is second in this year's GP2 series which concludes in Abu Dhabi on November 14 will three days later, on the same Yas Marina Circuit take his first step towards fulfilling his dream to become an F-1 driver.

After the final races of the GP2 series, Perez will take part in the F-1 test drives to be held at the Yas Marina Circuit on November 17.

Perez, who has signed up for the BMW-Sauber Formula 1 team for the 2011 season, said "It is a dream come true. I started racing at the age of six and always pushed myself to make it into Formula One. I had a very difficult time when going alone to Europe — to Germany actually — at the age of 15. It was hard but I took my chances. Now I'm looking forward to succeeding in Formula One."

Preparation

"When one achieves what every driver dreams of, being part Formula 1, it feels great. It gives me great pride representing my country all over the world. I'm very grateful to my sponsor Telmex and to Barwa Addax Team for the opportunity of getting to the highest level in my career and in the sport. My time spent with the team, in the Asia Series, as well as in GP2 this season, has allowed me to develop in my preparation and experience as a driver," he said.

Alejandro Agag of the Alejandro Agag said "Even though the task is a difficult one, we can feel satisfied with our efforts since we took over in 2007 as we have launched four drivers to the highest level."

"Lucas Di Grassi, Vitaly Petrov, Romain Grosjean and now Sergio Perez have all made it to Formula 1 status. This is a demonstration of the prestige of this team which is capable of promoting one driver every year to the highest class, also taking into account the limited number of seats available in Formula 1. In addition, in this case we are talking about a very young driver with a great future, fulfilling Addax's determination to guide a Mexican driver to F-1, when others had their doubts," Agag said.
