Abu Dhabi: An exciting initiative to help young motorsport fans get the most from their Formula One experience will be launched in the build-up to the Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

An electronic handbook called the Junior Motorsport Book will be made available to racegoers via download on the Yas Marina Circuit website and its YasHUB app. A video highlighting the main features of the guide will soon be released on social media to support the initiative.

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is expected to draw in thousands of extra young people thanks to this year’s ‘Kids Go Free’ Friday promotion. With every three-day adult Grandstand ticket purchased, children under 12 years old receive free Grandstand access on Friday, plus free entry to Ferrari World and Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi.

The Junior Motorsport Book features fun facts and figures, profiles on young drivers including Max Verstappen, a comprehensive review of previous races at Yas Marina Circuit and much more.

“One of Yas Marina Circuit’s key objectives is to provide young people with a platform to enter motorsport. This starts with helping kids make a strong connection with the sport from a young age.

“The features and information in the Junior Motorsport Book will help young people to better understand the sport and to appreciate the story behind the on-track action. By drawing attention to Yas Kart Zone and regional championships held at Yas Marina Circuit, the book also reveals the path into professional motorsport,” said Al Tareq Al Ameri, chief executive of Yas Marina Circuit.

Key features of the Junior Motorsport Book include full team and driver profiles, a challenging quiz and things to do on Yas Island. A facts-and-figures section provides insight into the rule changes that have made this year’s cars wider and faster.

Crucially, the Junior Motorsport Book provides children with the inspirational stories of drivers including Verstappen, and advice on how to embark on their own motorsport careers. From karting to regional youth championships to the international stage of GP3 and F2, the book plots a course for a younger generation to follow in their heroes’ footsteps.

It includes information on the upgraded Yas KartZone, which features a new track layout, more than 30 brand new karts and refurbished changing and briefing rooms. There are also details of the FIA-accredited Formula 4 UAE Championship, a series that helps drivers bridge the gap between existing regional racing series and European competition.
