Dubai: Shaikha Maitha Bint Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum led Zabeel Taekwondo team to success in the first Bahrain Open Taekwondo Championships which was held in Bahrain recently.

Zabeel Club players won eight medals in all. Their kitty had five gold medals, one silver and two bronze.

Those medals were won during the two-day non stop competition matches.

On the first day the girls team (five players) competed and managed to get four gold medals and one silver.

Shaikha Maitha won the final match against the Polish player Agrnika Juana in the 63 weight category after one of the best and strong matches in the championships .

Shaikha Maitha advanced till the end, and her opponent was not able to score any point due to the high level of fighting that Shaikha Maitha performed.

Before that match other players of Zabeel Club managed to show their skills.

Marah Zeyad Hammad got the gold medal after winning two matches against the Bahraini and Kuwaiti players in the 45 weight category competition.

Next gold was won by the talented and highly experienced player Haya Jumaa in 46 kg weight category.

Technical knockout

She won her first match against the Kuwaiti player with a 5-0 score and managed to win the second match by the technical knock out against the Bahraini player. Huda Jubran competed against Kuwaiti player in 55kg weight category competition. In the first round, her opponent pulled out from the match.

She won the second match against the Kuwaiti player by 5-0 score to get the fourth gold for Zabeel Club.

Zabeel girls' last medal was won by Sara Jubran (bronze medal) after she played the Qatari player.

The second day's action was for male players.

Zabeel Club participated with five players - Hussain Jumaa, Ayoub Yassin, Ahmad Omari, Mohammad Nael and Tariq Zeyad.

Ayoub Yassin won the first gold medal after winning the first match against the Saudi opponent by score of 7-0 and the same score was achieved against the Bahraini player in the second match.

His third match was a professional one where he won by the technical knock out in the second round against the Syrian player and proceeded to the final match against the Iranian player.

In the final, three rounds were ended at a tie (4 points each) and the win came in the fourth match where Ayoub managed to win by the death point.

Silver medal for Zabeel was won by the well experienced and talented player Hussain Jumaa.

In his first match Jumaa faced the Saudi and Asian Champion Meshaal Al Matrifi.

Hussain finished the game in the second round by the technical knock out which was done through the best kick in the championships.

In the final Hussain lost to Khalid Al Meqbali to secure the silver medal.

Third medal was won by Mohammad Nael. He received the silver medal after losing against Saudi and Asia Champion.

Around 600 players had participated in these events from 12 countries forming 32 teams.
