Dubai: Team Great Britain's Katherine Legge will enter history books today when she becomes the first lady driver on the A1 Grand Prix Series.

"For a series like the A1 Grand Prix, everything is historic," Legge told Gulf News after walking over the circuit at the Dubai Autodrome yesterday.

"I am just another driver. This series is a level playing field for nations. This level playing field applies to us drivers as well," she beamed.

Team Great Britain has chosen Legge to run the car for the first of two official practice sessions today. Their main driver Robbie Kerr will take over later during the day.

Legge, 25, finished third overall in this year's North American Toyota Atlantic Championship.

That drew enough attention as the Minardi Formula One team roped her in to do some testing for them. In doing so, Legge became the first female racer to try a Formula One car for more than a decade.

"When one steps into the car, no one on the track either the other drivers or the car for that matter even considers that the one driving is a lady or a man," Legge shrugged.

"The car doesn't know the difference. At the end of the day, it's just driving for me and trying to get as much exposure as possible to become one of the best drivers in the world," she beamed.
