Madison: Dubai-based racing driver Ed Jones clinched IndyCar Rookie of the Year at Gateway Motorsports Park in Madison, Illinois, last weekend, courtesy of a hard-fought 13th-place finish in the Bommarito Automotive Group 500.

The reigning IndyLights champion has enjoyed an impressive maiden campaign in the pinnacle of US Open-wheel racing this year, with the highlight being a third-place finish in the iconic Indianapolis 500.

He started 12th on the grid for round 15 of the 17-stage season at Gateway last weekend and was threatening a top 10 finish at one point during the race before falling back to 13th. That was enough to put the rookie title beyond doubt however.

The Dale Coyne Racing driver will now take part in the penultimate stage of the season — the Grand Prix at the Glen — on September 3 in New York before the season wraps up at the Grand Prix of Sonoma in California on September 17.
