Dubai: The Dubai Autodrome will play host to the eighth and final UAE Race Day of the season today. The day's action will consist of the UAE National and DAMC Championship, the Gulf Radical Cup and the DAMC Open Saloons Championship.
Going into the last two rounds of the Gulf Radical Cup, the lead is in the hands of Bahrain Team 777 pairing of Shaikh Salman Bin Rashid Al Khalifa and Fahad Al Mussallam - who will be driving the Radical SR3 at the last event.
Dubai's Bassam Kronfli (EVO Middle East) will therefore be going for a double victory to try to secure the title.
While all eyes will be on the battle between Dubai and Bahrain, with Andrew Lemon fighting to maintain his third position in the series, spectators will be treated to the spectacle of Eric Charles (continental-circus.com) in the blue and orange colours of Gulf Oil and David Moran in his British Racing Green SR3.
Strong opposition
The DAMC Open Saloons Championship is sure to provide some excitement with a host of Porsches capable of taking overall honours while the cat among the pigeons is Costas Papantonis (House of Portier Seat Leon).
Top gun in the Porsches has been Karim Al Azhari in the Al Naboudah machine, but he is now finding Ala Malak, Nadir Zuhour, Barry Carpenter and Harris Irfan filling his mirrors.
In the Championship battle, Al Azhari looks set to be crowned Group 2 Champion while Papantonis is favourite to take top honours in the Group 1 Championship.
Zlatko Mulabegovic (Top Performance Honda) who has all but clinched the Group 4 title faces strong opposition from of Sam Zian (Yellow Hat Honda). Spencer Vanderpal (Any Sports Photos Mitsubishi), who leads the Group 3 class championship, will have to fend off the Golf GTi brigade led by Mark Hannak and Mohammad Al Falasi.
Chris Wishart (ProRacing Nissan) is set to return to action in Class 1 to take on pace setter Papantonis for the season finale.
Fireworks can also be expected in the duel for the UAE Superstock Championship between Abdul Aziz Bin Laden (Arabian Falcon Kawasaki) and Rod 'Papa' Scott (Al Yousuf Yamaha).
The Stock Bike Championship has long been decided with Indian ace Juzar Motiwala (Honda) having wrapped up the title in dominant fashion.
Jason Burnside (Team GAJ Honda) lies second with Bahraini Hussain Al Kooheji (Dama Al Yousuf Yamaha) closing in and sure to be going all out to take the runner-up spot.
