Abu Dhabi: Former Formula One driver Giancarlo Fisichella believes the i1 Supercar Series is a great step to success for budding Indian drivers and to make a mark in motorsport.

"This is really interesting for young drivers, especially Indian drivers. They get a great opportunity to race along with us which can help them grow in every aspect," said the 38-year-old, who has three wins in Formula One.

Fisichella, who entered the Formula One in 1996, won his first race at the Brazilian Grand Prix in 2003 and then won the opening race of the 2005 season at the Australian Grand Prix. His third victory came the next year at the Malaysian Grand Prix. "I like the format and the concept. It can be very interesting," he added of the new series.

Fisichella added that motorsport in India was blooming and this concept could be yet another beginning. "Three to four years ago India were nowhere in the picture of Formula One. Today they have a Formula One team and then they have one of the best circuits and now this. So there is good enough reason for this concept to grow," said the man who is currently driving the AF Corse's GT2 Ferrari at various racing events.

"My calendar for next year will be pretty much the same. I will be doing the World Tour Championship and the Le Mans Series," he added.
