Abu Dhabi: General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, unveiled an exhibition of the Yas Marina Circuit at the Emirates Palace Hotel on Tuesday night.

The Yas Marina Circuit, which is currently under construction on Yas Island, will host the Formula One Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on November 15 next year, the final race of the season.

Shaikh Mohammad, along with a delegation of top officials, visited the exhibition for the state-of-art circuit.

Lt General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Interior, Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Presidential Affairs, Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, and Shaikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, along with a number of other Shaikhs and officials also toured the exhibition.

Unique development

Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, the Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Affairs Authority and Abu Dhabi Motorsports Management, who has been instrumental in securing the race and developing the track, said: "The Yas Marina Circuit will be a unique space in the motorsports world.

"It is a state-of-the-art piece of engineering, design and construction. It will be the first circuit in the world which will have a grand stand which will be fully covered.

"The technology incorporated in building the race track is as sophisticated as the cars racing on it. "The yacht club will enable mega yachts of over 100 feet to be berthed and from which the race can be watched.

"We thank the Abu Dhabi Government for their support and I would also like to thank Bernie Ecclestone, Formula One chief. Our aim is to make Abu Dhabi a truly Arabian capital of the region."

Khaldoon also highlighted the role of Philippe Gurdjian, the CEO of Abu Dhabi Motorsports Management. "Philippe has impressed the world with his creativity, his vision for the future and his precise attention to even the smallest of details," he said.

"In a year's time from now Abu Dhabi will be staging the Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on November 15, 2009 and we are confident that racing fans will experience a great event."
