Singapore: India's debut on the Formula One calendar is likely to be pushed back a year to 2011, the sport's commercial supremo Bernie Ecclestone said on Friday.

Asked about plans for a race in New Delhi in 2010, he told reporters at the Singapore Grand Prix that "2011 is what I want."

Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president Suresh Kalmadi announced last year that India would host its first Formula One race in 2010 after signing draft contracts with Ecclestone's Formula One Management.

Construction of the circuit is due to start next month and Force India team owner Vijay Mallya has said he expected it to be finished on schedule.

"From my information, even though I am not building the track, the track will be ready for 2010," the Indian billionaire told the autosport.com website on Friday.

"But as you know the F1 schedule is decided by Bernie and I guess everyone has to accept what Bernie decides."

Abu Dhabi is due to make its debut next year in an expanded 19-race calendar.
