Dubai: The organisers of the Dubai Motorsport Festival are expecting a much bigger response when registration of cars ends later on Monday.

"We're definitely much better placed by way of numbers compared to last season," Mohammad Al Qadi, the Dubai Autodrome Motorsport Club (DAMC), told Gulf News.

This year, the festival takes on local flavour to celebrate of UAE motorsport with "support national motorsport" as its theme.

"We want to encourage more people to come and be part of motorsport in the UAE," stated Peter Burns, the marketing manager at the Dubai Autodrome.

The 2008 Dubai Motorsport Festival will take place at the Dubai Autodrome on November 14-15.

Action on the circuit will consist of the Yellow Hat Touring Cars Championship, the UAE Sportbike Championship and the Gulf Radical Cup.

Off-track activities will include an Extreme Motion show customisation display, motorcycle and car club displays and parades, and fun events for children.

Al Qadi is expecting at least 20 cars for the Gulf Radical Cup, which will be contested in three separate classes. The opening season last year saw just eight cars participating.

The UAE Sportbike Championship featuring the region's top riders will also be contested in three categories with anything between 25 and 27 bikes expected to confirm their participation.

The Yellow Hat Touring Cars Championship will be held in either four or five classes with at least 30 saloons confirming so far.

Stunt man Craig Jones will be an added attraction when the Dubai Motorsport Festival is held at the Dubai Autodrome on November 14-15.

Born in Birmingham in England, Jones has been riding motorcycles since the age of 14.

Jones is best known for his feat of entering the Guinness Book of Records when he beat his own record for the world's longest stoppie in August 2003.

Using a new Buell XB12R, Jones carried a distance on the front wheel of 266 metres after taking off from a speed of 210 kilometres per hour.

"Our goal is to have a huge crowd at this event, which is bound to cater entertainment to the entire family," stated Peter Burns, Dubai Autodrome's Sales and Marketing Manager.
