Abu Dhabi: Yas Marina Circuit will once again echo to the roar of street racers this weekend, as some of the UAE’s best drivers battle it out to be crowned ‘King of the Street’ on its purpose-built drag strip.

Following the success of round 1 in January, the second round of the open-entry Yas Super Street Challenge will take place on February 26-27. More than 90 of the UAE’s best street racers will be going head to head across five distinct entry categories – ‘4x4 Super Street SUV’; ‘Index 11.5’; ‘Index 10.5’; ‘Super Street’ and ‘Super Street – Open Category’. As part of its ongoing bid to encourage grassroots motorsport activity in the UAE, Yas Marina Circuit is offering would-be drag kings the chance to take part for Dhs 400, with cash prizes ranging from Dh5,000 for third place, Dh10,000 for second, and Dh15,000 for first place up for grabs. Support crews can access the pit lane for only Dhs 100, making the Yas Super Street Challenge an affordable experience held in one of the most professional racing environments possible, according to organisers.

Spectators can watch all the heart-pumping drag racing action from the grandstand for only Dh50 – students pay only Dh30 with a valid student ID – and in addition to the on-track action, can enjoy music from a live DJ, as well as a wide range of on-site food and beverage options to choose from.

For Dh250, VIP tickets are also available now, providing access to the best viewing seats in the house, the drag paddock area, and an array of catering served in the hospitality suite.

“Drag racing is extremely popular among the UAE youth and we are delighted to be able to open up our purpose built drag strip to them.” said Al Tareq Al Ameri, Chief Executive Officer of Yas Marina Circuit. “We are constantly striving to encourage grassroots motorsport in the UAE and the Yas Super Street Challenge is the perfect platform to engage with all those out there that are as passionate about racing as we are.”
