Abu Dhabi: In the first free practice session of Master Class, Matthias Dolderer set the fastest time of the day, but showed vulnerability in the later session when he exceeded the maximum G-limit and received a DNF (did not finish).

The German pilot started his 2018 campaign in perfect style by setting the fastest time in FP1. His time of 52.784s was unbeatable in either session but closest to him was Martin Sonka in FP1 who was 0.727s behind him. Michael Goulian was third on the FP1 timesheet with Matt Hall in fourth. Those two were within a second of Dolderer.

In the Challenger Class first competitive session of the new Edge 540 V2, Polish pilot Luke Czepiela was than a second faster in the first free practice. The second FP2 saw Daniel Ryfa top the timesheet with 57.236s — the fastest of the day. Czepiela maintained his competitive edge and although he was slower, he was still quick enough to be second in FP2.
