Abu Dhabi: The presence of the sensational Beyoncé and legendary driver Michael Schumacher were the perfect appetisers to kick-start the world's first day-night Formula One race that will be held at the imposing Yas Marina Circuit this weekend.

Schumacher on Thursday made an appearance at the Emirates Golf Club to launch the Arabic version of the Shell-backed Middle East and North Africa Road Safety Partnership.

The same evening Beyoncé was the star of the night at a packed concert at the newly-built race venue.

On Friday, drivers will get an hour to conduct a track familiarisation between 5.30 and 6.30pm.

The Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will be Formula One's first ever day-night race, with a start time of 5pm on Sunday.

The floodlights used to illuminate the circuit will be switched on from the start of the event to ensure there is a seamless transition from day to night.
