Dubai could host a Formula E race year, motorsport legend Alain Prost has told Gulf News. Prost said officials behind the newly launched discipline for electric cars had been in talks with motorsport chiefs in the Emirate, but Formula E spokesman Tom Phillips could not confirm this when contacted.

“I know that the organisation [Formula E Holdings] has talked to people in Dubai, which would be great,” said Prost, a four-time Formula One world champion. “I would be very, very positive about that because I think it would be a nice region to have this formula as you have a lot of motorsport fans from different countries there.”

However, Phillips would not be drawn on whether Dubai would join cities such as Beijing and London in staging a Formula E race.

He said: “Formula E is currently preparing the calendar for its 2015/2016 season. This includes a number of new potential cities, all of which have to be carefully evaluated in terms of infrastructure, availability, support and commitment to sustainability.

“At this stage we are not in position to reveal these cities, and won’t announce the season two calendar until it has been initially approved by the [governing body] the FIA.”
