Abu Dhabi: Al Qubaisi sisters Amna and Hamda will become the first Emirati girls to participate in the Rotax Max Euro Challenge when they open their European karting season at the 1.360km long Genk track in Brussels, Belgium this week.

The season-opener will see Amna challenge for honours in the Senior Max class, while Hamda will be in action in the Junior Max category.

Both Amna and Hamda, who are self-funded for this prestigious four-round championship, have had an excellent campaign in the UAE, picking up several podium finishes between them in the UAE Rotax Max Challenge and the IAME X30 Challenge.

The sisters’ father, Khaled Al Qubaisi, who is himself an accomplished driver, racing in the FIA World Endurance Championship, Gulf 12 Hours, and the Dubai 24 Hours, said: “This is the start of their European season and first of several races they will be doing during the summer all over Europe.

“This is the first round of the Euro Max Championship, which is a very strong championship with top drivers from all over the world competing for honours. It will be a good series for Amna and Hamda as it will provide them with experience going forward in their karting career. It will also give them an opportunity to compete against some of the best drivers in the world where they can compete for good positions.”

The Rotax Max Euro Challenge will welcome about 150 drivers for the first round at Genk, with over 20 nations competing in three categories - Junior, Senior, DD2 and the special classification of DD2 Masters.
