Abu Dhabi: Khalid Al Qubaisi will compete in the Six Hours of Fuji endurance race, round five of the current eight-stage FIA World Endurance Championship series, at the Fuji Speedway in Oyama, Japan, this weekend.

Al Qubaisi and his teammates, Christian Ried and Klaus Bachler, are representing the Abu Dhabi Racing and Emirates Global Aluminium-backed side Proton Competition in their Porsche 911 RSR.

The race is considered to be one of the most challenging in the series, apart from the 24 Hours of Le Mans where Al Qubaisi and the team finished second to Aston Martin Racing in the LMGTE Am class in June.

Despite never racing on the Fuji Speedway track, Al Qubaisi is undaunted. “Fuji will be tough,” he said. “If it rains then we have a better chance as the Astons are too fast on the dry. The goal is always to be on the podium, but it won’t be easy as we have to be the best of the rest.”

Al Qubaisi added that he would fight to improve on his position in the LMGTE Am class, where he is one point behind third and three points behind second in the drivers and team’s standings.
