Abu Dhabi/COTA: Proton Competition, the Emirates Global Aluminium and Abu Dhabi Racing-backed team, driver Khaled Al Qubaisi is relishing the challenge of driving into a difficult terrain when he tackles the fourth round of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) in the 6 Hours of the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) at Austin in Texas, the US, starting from 6th position on the grid in the LMGTE AM class behind the wheel of Porsche 911 RSR.

The Circuit of the Americas is considered to be one of the most challenging of endurances of the series, apart from the 24 Hours of Le Mans where Al Qubaisi and team finished second overall in class LMGTE Am.

Al Qubaisi said: “The track is difficult, we struggled to get the right set up and the weather conditions were tricky.”

“We were a bit unlucky with in the qualifying session with the weather, as our laps were done under a damper track! Other teams did it a bit later and had a better track condition. To qualify in P6 under such conditions is fine; we have now to focus on the race itself,” Al Qubaisi added.

Al Qubaisi is currently ranked third in the teams’ standings along with team-mates German Christian Ried and Austrian Klaus Bachler, the trio just four points shy of their second-placed rivals in the championship.
