Former champion takes second Chevrolet race at Yas Marina Circuit
Abu Dhabi : Former champion Tareq Al Gammal made a return to winning ways while taking the second race of the Chevrolet Supercars Middle East Championship at the Yas Marina Circuit yesterday.
Al Gammal, winner of the Chevrolet Supercars Middle East Championship in its inaugural year in 2007, at last got everything going his way as he led from start to finish ahead of Shaikh Hamad Al Khalifa of Bahrain and Saudi Arabia's Abdul Aziz Al Yaeesh yesterday.
"It's really been a long, long time since I last won a race. You will not believe the huge relief that I am experiencing at this moment," the Dubai-based Australian said after taking the podium.
Backed by Castrol, Al Gammal always knew he had a competitive package. However, bad luck always seemed to get the better of him — denying him a single win since the end of the 2008 season.
"This win has taken away a lot of pressure and I hope I have hit the winning straight once again," he added.
The UAE's Mohammad Al Owais was also among the early challengers as he pursued Shaikh Hamad.
