The elections for the table tennis association, the final round of voting being held to elect representatives for the UAE's various sports bodies, will be held today at the Leaders Qualification Centre. Seven associations (basketball, chess, taekwondo, karate, cycling, swimming, handball and athletics) elected their members over the last nine days.

Only the elections for the volleyball association are left and a decision to formalise a new date will be taken by the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare's (GAYSW) Discipline Committee following its postponement last Thursday.

The Table Tennis Association's General Assembly will be chaired today by Mohammad Khalifa Balhoul, director Youth and Culture department at the GAYSW and member of the Elections Executive committee.

The presidency is tipped to go to the Al Nasr club candidate Dawood Abdul Rahman Al Hajery, who is set to win unopposed.

The other candidate Mohammad Hasan Al Bahr, from Al Ahli club, withdrew following a statement by his club to that effect.

This decision has paved the way for Al Hajery's victory. Al Hajery, who was a former national team and Al Nasr player, was also a member of the table tennis association's board last year when he resigned.

The going will be tough for the 13 candidates who have expressed their candidacy for the table tennis association's board of directors.

The 13 candidates are Ahmad Juma Al Bahr (Al Shabab club); Saleh Saif Al Qady (Al Taawon club); Ammar Khalaf Thani (Ajman club); Ahmad Mohammad Ghubash (Ras Al Khaimah club); Noorah Abdullah Al Anssary (Al Zaid club); Naser Khamis Al Suwaidi (Al Wasl); Ebrahim Eissa Al Asam (Emirates club); Hasan Ali Al Zaraowni (Al Shaab club); Khalid Juma Al Qattan (Al Ahli club); Jasim Mohammad Al Houssany (Al Ain Club); Ahmad Abdullah Al Mulla (Falaj Al Mualla club); Mohammad Obaid Al Khoud (Masafi club); Redha Zain Al Attas (Al Jazira Club).
