Dubai: Desert Palm 2 squeaked past Ghantoot 8-7 in over-time in Wednesday’s lone preliminary round match of the McLaren Cup polo being held at the Dubai Polo and Equestrian Club (DPEC).

Desert Palm 2 remain only the third team, after Zedan and Bin Drai, to stay unbeaten in the competition so far.

It was a close affair from the start, as the teams remained were tied 1-1 at the end of the opening chukka.

In the second chukka, Desert Palm 2 trailed by a goal as they managed just one in comparison to a couple from Ghantoot. But they did well to draw level 3-3 by the end of the next chukka.

In the penultimate chukka, Desert Palm 2 edged clear 5-4, only to see Ghantoot fight back to level things up at 7-7 at the end of the fifth and final chukka.

Desert Palm 2 bagged the next goal midway through extra-time thanks to an individual goal from Matias Torres Zavaleta and they then held on until the end.

The McLaren Cup 2015 will continue with two matches on Friday, with UAE Polo taking on Desert Palm 1 at Desert Palm Polo Club at 1pm and Zedan taking on Bin Drai at DPEC from 4pm.
