Dubai Jockey Paul Hanagan asserted that they world is Mahsoob’s oyster after the exciting Dubai-owned colt maintained his unbeaten record when winning the Listed Wolferton Handicap at Royal Ascot on Saturday.

The classy son of Dansili has his trainer, John Gosden, eyeing top Group 1 contests like the Coral Eclipse Stakes (July 4, Sandown), John Smiths Cup (July 11, York) and King George (July 25, Ascot), following his domineering victory over the Mark Johnston-trained pair of Sennockian Star and Fire Fighting.

Although the Derby-winning handler would not commit on which race he intends to aim the Shadwell-bred Mahsoob at British bookmakers William Hill cut the colt’s odds to 10/1 for the £450,000 (Dh2.6 million) Eclipse at Sandown Park.

“This was a Listed Handicap so we’ll have to step up into Group company now,” said Gosden. “I must talk to the jockey as he had to come a little wide in the straight but he’s still learning.

“He’ll get a mile and a half. I trained his dam (Mooakada) who I wanted to run over that trip but couldn’t because she met with a little problem. He got the job done.”

Mahsoob is the second Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance, winner of the week after Muhaarar, who won the inaugural Group 1 Commonwealth Cup on Friday.

Hanagan, who was celebrating his first winner of the week, was in awe of his horse and said: “I was really impressed. It was down to the tactics, I wanted to be handy but once he finds top gear, he’s OK.

“We have always thought a lot of him so I think the world’s his oyster now.

“He’s improved with every run and there’s a lot to look forward to.”

Earlier, former Italian champion jockey Cristian Demuro rode a blinder aboard French-trained Suits You to deny favourite Ballydoyle, the mount of record-breaking Royal Ascot jockey Ryan Moore, and Sixth Sense, ridden by Australia’s James McDonald, in the Listed Chesham Stakes.

Irishman Eoghan O’Neill, who is based in France, said: “He’s very smart, he has been since February and I kept him for this race because as he’s by Youmzain, he gets in under the conditions of the race.

“It’s just wonderful to be here and to win. He will run in France next and then come back for the Royal Lodge.”

Demuro, who was also scoring his first Royal Ascot win, added: “It’s amazing, it’s just unbelievable.

“The people screaming like that is just amazing.”

Mark Johnston, who trains Sixth Sense for Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, said: “When he won at Pontefract (over five furlongs) we said he would be a Chesham horse and we were not too far wrong. I’m very happy with that.

“When he went clear inside the final furlong, I did wonder whether coming back to six furlongs would have been better but James (McDonald) said he was happy over seven furlongs, just the others stayed a little bit better.”
