Dubai: Trainer Mohammad Ebrahim Abdul Majid has been suspended for the rest of the UAE racing season after one of his horses failed a drug test.

An Emirates Racing Authority (ERA) press release issued on Monday states that prohibited substances caffeine and theophylline were detected in the post-race urine sample taken from Journalistic following the Commercial Bank of Dubai handicap at Jebel Ali on December 13, 2013.

Evidence was taken from Central Veterinary Research Laboratory Chief Analyst Dr. Peter Albert, ERA Head Veterinary Officer Dr. David Sykes and Abdul Majid, who admitted a breach of ERA Rule of Racing 95A 1(b) in that he administered Novococ to Journalistic prior to the Jebel Ali race.

In considering the penalty, ERA stewards took into account the trainer’s guilty plea, the seriousness of the matter, the circumstances of the case and Abdul Majid’s disciplinary record, which showed that he had a previous charge in 2011 relating to prohibited substances.

As a result, Abdul Majid has been disqualified for a period of three months, effective immediately, to expire at midnight on April 6.

In addition the trainer was fined the sum of Dh15,000. In accordance with ERA ruler 86 (ii), Journalistic was disqualified from last place in the race.
