Dubai: Jebel Ali Racecourse is gearing up for another day of great sporting and social entertainment when it hosts the Prep race for the Listed Jebel Ali Sprint sponsored by Shadwell.

Run over a straight 1,000m, the Dh120,000 Sprint is the third and final highlight of the season at the ‘Hilly’ racecourse and takes place on March 7, just three weeks before the Dubai World Cup.

The race has attracted a high-quality field of seven runners headed by dual Jebel Ali Sprint winner Russian Rock who is looking to bounce back from successive defeats this season.

The Musabah Al Muhairi-trained seven-year-old reserves his best racing for the track where he has notched eight wins including seven at Friday’s minimum trip of 1,000m.

Only two of his six rivals, the Jebel Ali-trained Sholaan and Zabeel Racing’s Spin Cycle, have posted wins at the track, which offers a real test for both horse and jockey over the final two furlongs.

Al Muhairi reports that his stable star is in good health and ready to run a big race, en route to attempting a third victory in the Dh500,000 contest, which follows the Listed Jebel Ali Mile and Group 3 Jebel Ali Stakes.

Shadwell, the breeding operations of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance, continue their support of racing at Jebel Ali, by also sponsoring the opening race on the card under the banner of Derrinstown Stud in Ireland.

Mirza Al Sayegh, advisor to Shaikh Hamdan and Shadwell’s General Manager, reiterated the stud’s commitment to supporting races at Jebel Ali.

Speaking during a press conference on Tuesday, Al Sayegh said: “We are directed by Shaikh Hamdan to support and sponsor races hosted by Jebel Ali Racecourse.”

Al Sayegh also thanked Shaikh Ahmad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Chief of Dubai Police and Public Security, for his contribution to racing in the UAE.

Sharief Al Halawani, Director of Jebel Ali Racecourse, thanked all the partners, sponsors, and fans for their support.

Shadwell is joined by Al Shafar Investment, Commercial Bank of Dubai, Al Hudaiba Contracting Co and E Sport as sponsors of the other races on the card.
