Dubai: Godolphin trainer Richard Fahey has had a change of plan about his dual Group 1 scorer Ribchester and has elected to cut short his ‘holiday’ and instead run him in the Group 1 Prix Du Moulin at Chantilly on Sunday.

Following Ribchester’s narrow neck defeat to outsider Here Comes When in the Group 1 Sussex Stakes at Goodwood a month ago, Fahey had decided to give the four-year-old son of Iffraaj a break, before a likely shot at the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on British Champions Day at Ascot on October 21.

But the North Yorkshire-based Fahey is now happy to ‘take him racing again this weekend in Paris,’ on a glittering four Group racecard recognised as Arc Trials Day, a build-up to the October 1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe extravaganza.

“He’s not letting me give him a holiday,” Fahey told the Godolphin website. “He’s in such great order, we’ll take him racing again this weekend, in Paris.

“When he came back from Goodwood, I thought a little break would do him good. I put him on the treadmill for eight days, but he kept telling me he wanted to get back racing again.

Fahey, who enjoyed the biggest win of his career when Ribchester won the £685,000 (Dh3.28 million) Queen Anne Stakes, the showpiece race on Day 1 at Royal Ascot earlier this year, said he has ‘never trained’ a horse like him.

“He’s a horse, who never blows [after races]. I’ve never trained one like him,” he said.

“I thought he probably had a hard race at Goodwood, but he’s come out of the Sussex so well physically. The ground won’t be a problem — It is currently soft, and it could get softer.

“But, also, he’s broken a track record, so he is at home on ground that is quick, too,” he added.

There is a six-week gap between the Moulin and the QEII at Ascot on October 21, British Champions Day.

Sunday’s card also features the Prix Niel (Group 2) for three-year-olds, tje Prix Vermeille (Group 1) for fillies three and over and the Prix Foy (Group 2) for four-year-olds and over, all three of which races are run over 2,800 metres.
