Dubai: Having reaped the rewards of his best season ever in the UK, trainer Richard Fahey has turned his sights on the Dubai World Cup meeting with two of his prospective Carnival Stars, Tales of Grimm and Gabrial.

Yorkshire-based Fahey has mapped out similar programmes for his duo who take their first steps towards their anticipated Dubai goal when they line up in the Listed Singspiel Stakes over nine furlongs on Turf.

Fahey said: “Tales of Grim won a conditions event at Newbury and was second in a Group 3 [Darley Stakes] at Newmarket.

“He had a couple of runs on the all weather [at Lingfield] which were rather disappointing, but the plan was always to come here and get him back on grass and hopefully that will help him.

“Hopefully there’s a good programme for him — he’s rated a 107 and the dream is to try and get him to Dubai World Cup night.”

A five-year-old son of Distorted Humour, Tales of Grimm was campaigned at the top level during 2013, with his best performance coming at Newbury in September where he ran a blinder at Newbury to beat Godolphin’s highly-regarded French Navy.

Assessing Gabrial’s Carnival campaign, Fahey added: “Gabrial has been a good hardy horse. He’s a 106 and the plan is the same, to get him to Dubai World Cup night.

“We might give him a run on the all-weather out here and see how he gets on with it. He might need the run.

“Basically they are two similar horses, with the same plans

“They’ve travelled well and they are looked after well here. Everything’s gone well so far, we just hope for the best.”

Last season was a career-defining year for Fahey, who sent out 164 domestic winners including six Group winners and four Listed winners.

It was also Fahey’s best yet in terms of prize money with a staggering £2,455,584 (Dh14.79 million) accumulated as the Malton handler finish third in the numerical list in the trainers’ championship in the UK, and fifth overall.
