Dubai: Profitable, one of Europe’s top sprinters last season, makes his seasonal debut in the Group 3 Prix de Saint-Georges over five furlongs at Deauville, France, on Saturday.

This will be the son of Invincible Spirt’s first start for Godolphin since he was acquired from owner Alan Spence, a vice president of Chelsea FC at the start of the year.

James Doyle takes the ride on the Clive Cox trainee who face nine rivals headed by Group 1 Prix Maurice de Gheest hero Signs Of Blessing and Son Cesio, a Group 2 winner over the course and distance.

Cox, who is based in Lambourn, England, commented: “We have been pleased with Profitable. I think that he should have a very strong chance, especially with Signs Of Blessing running under a penalty.

“I am pleased with the forecast ground conditions and looking forward to seeing him back in action.”

Profitable was scheduled to make his seasonal debut in the Group 3 Palace House Stakes at Newmarket on May 6 — a race he won in 2016, but was forced to miss the contest due to a minor stone bruise.

Last season Profitable scored significant victories over five furlongs in the Group 2 Temple Stakes at Haydock Park and the Group 1 King’s Stand Stakes, a popular sprint contest currently held on the opening day of the Royal Ascot meeting. Among the races that he is being aimed at is the Group 2 Temple Stakes at Haydock on May 27, the King’s Stand Stakes on June 2 at Royal Ascot and the Group 1 Darley July Cup at Newmarket on July 15.

The Prix de Saint-Georges is the main support race for the 1m Group 1 Abu Dhabi Poule d’Essai des Pouliches (1000 Guineas)
