Dubai: Dubai owners are well represented in the Group 3 Tattersall Stakes, the opening day’s highlight of the three-day Cambridgeshire Meeting, the first big autumn fixture staged at Newmarket Racecourse in England.

Five of the nine runners contesting the seven furlong event for two-year-olds represent Dubai interests. Godolphin, who won this race twelve months ago with the Saeed Bin Surour-trained Maftool, are responsible for two of the quintet in Sienia Stakes (G3) victor Roulea and July Stakes (G2) runner-up Steady Pace.

Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance, who won the Tattersall Stakes in 1997 Haami, has strong claims with three-race scorer Tasleet while Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, is represented by Sirena third Adventurous, one of the outsiders in the nine-runner field.

Haalick, who races in the colours of Major General Shaiklh Ahmad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Head of Dubai Police and Public Security, will bid to give trainer Roger Varian a first success in the contest.

Godolphin handler Charlie Appleby, who is looking forward to saddling Rouleau, said in the Sporting Life: “Rouleau has been ultra-consistent throughout his two-year-old campaign and I am hoping that he will be competitive on this first try at seven furlongs.

“If he is, it will open up doors for him in the future.

“He’s a very relaxed horse with a great temperament who doesn’t light up in the mornings, so that should help him on Thursday. He will be switched off and ridden to get the trip.

The leading performers in the race usually go on to compete in the Dewhurst Stakes or the Racing Post Trophy, two major two-year-old races.

Legendary French handler Andre Fabre is hoping that Lawmaking can underline his Classic potential and said: “I expect him to run a good race.

“He is a good, athletic horse and I think Newmarket will suit him.

“It will be good to get him some more experience and I see him as a potential Guineas horse for next year.

“I know he has yet to prove it, but he is a horse I like a lot.”

Friday’s card features two exciting Group 2 races, the Shadwell Rockfel Stakes over seven furlongs and the Shadwell Joel Stakes over a mile while Saturday’s highlights are the Cheveley Park Stakes and the Cambridgeshire Handicap.

The Cambridgeshire, which was first run in the 19th century, is one of the great races run in Britain and traditional features a full field of 35 runners.
