Dubai: Dutch-bred Arabian star Phraseur Kossack maintained his dominance over his rivals to win the seventh round of the HH Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies World Championship at the Hoppegarten Racecourse in Holland on Sunday evening.

The seven-year-old chestnut was given a confident ride by leading Dutch lady jockey Jadey Pletrasiewicz to win by over four lengths in the 1,600m contest, which carried a purse of €30,000 (Dh151,556).

Athlete de Sol, a French-bred who is trained by Darley award winner Karen van den Bos and has created waves in Holland, went into the race as the favourite with Japanese professional jockey Mai Beppu in the saddle.

The 27-year-old jockey, who has ridden 479 winners in her career, was hoping to emulate Korean lady jockey Keumjoo Lee, who made a winning debut in the HH Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies World Championship at Casablanca last month.

However, it was Pletrasiewicz, a 30-year-old home care nurse who has ridden 85 winners, who emerged as the big winner on the day.

“It’s a race to remember. I knew the Japanese lady was favourite to win the race with Athlete del Sol, but I was confident that it was my turn to book a dream line-up in the grand final of the competition in Abu Dhabi next November.

“I know the trainer Huub Otermans and he has told me that Phraseur Kossack is in his best form and would be suited with soft underfoot conditions following the rain showers which hit the venue in the afternoon,” she added.

“His instructions were to settle behind the early pace and put the horse on top gear at the home turn, and that’s what happened. My mount showed his stamina and stayed on very strongly to lead by four lengths close home.”

Pietrasiewic had teamed up with Otermans last year to win the Listed Shaikh Zayed Cup at the same venue aboard Poulain Kossac.

Meanwhile, leading German jockey Eduardo Pedroza rode a fine race aboard French-bred Valentin to land the €35,000 Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Listed Cup.

Trained by CJM Wolters at the Stall Lucky Stables in Holland, the five-year-old son of Amer was always going well before Pedroza let him loose in the home straight and the horse accelerated to win comfortably.

Both races were held under the directives of Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE and Minister of Presidential Affairs, as part of the HH Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival — organised by the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority and coordinated by Abu Dhabi Sports Council in association with Emirates Racing Authority, IFAHR and Emirates Arabian Horse Society.
