Dubai Brazen Beau and Muhaarar are among 15 of the best tactical sprinters who will go head-to-head in Saturday’s Group 1 £510,000 (Dh2.88 million) Darley July Cup (G1), the highlight of the final day’s racing at Newmarket’s July Festival.

Both horses boast Dubai connections with Australian star Brazen Beau represeting Team Godolphin while Royal Ascot hero Muhaarar runs in the colours of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance.

Run over 1,200 metres, the July Cup is one of Britain’s most valuable and prestigious sprint races with the winner being conferred with the title of champion sprinter in Europe.

Brazen Beau, a five-time winner in his native Australia, bids to compensate for his narrow defeat to American-trained Undrafted in the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot last month.

James Doyle, who replaces Australian jockey Craig Williams in the saddle, is confident that Brazen Beau can establish his credentials as a high-class sprinter in what is likely to be the final race of his brief but glittering career, before he is put out to stud for a service fee of $44,000.

Doyle has sat on the three-year-old I Am Invincible colt only three times, but has been hugely impressed by his ability.

“I can’t believe how relaxed he is,” Doyle told the Godolphin website. “When you think of top sprinters, you automatically think of highly-strung, explosive types. But this fellow is different. He is chilled out.

“He is a proper sprinter. He is well equipped to cope with anything Newmarket can throw his way,” he said.

Doyle also rates Muhaarar, who impressed immensely when landing the inaugural running of the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot, as the big danger and said:

“He was very good when he won the Commonwealth Cup at Ascot.

Chris Waller, who trains Brazen Beau, told At The Races: “He was close to being perfect for Ascot and if that race does bring him on he is going to be hard to beat.”

Eddie Lynam won last year’s July Cup with Slade Power and and saddles multiple Group One winner Sole Power and younger stable companion Anthem Alexander.

Aidan O’Brien’s Due Diligence, Betfred Sprint Cup hero G Force and the Dean Ivory-trained Tropics are other notables.

Completing the list are Astaire, Caspar Netscher, Danzeno, Eastern Impact, Jack Dexter and Steps.
