Dubai: Mizzna, the daughter of three-time Kahayla Classic winner Alanudd (Unchained Melody) will be making a strong bid to halt Madjani's winning streak in the $250,000 Group 1 Kahayla Classic on Dubai World Cup night.

Frenchman Eric Lemartinel, who trains the 6-year-old chestnut mare, said Mizzna was ready to take on Madjani and the rest of the boys in this 10-furlong race on dirt.

"Last year when she ran third to Madjani, she was just five and was still new in the UAE. She had just one run here which she won over seven furlongs on turf before she was put into the big race," said Lemartinel.

Not worried

"However she is much more experienced and will be a strong contender," said Lemartinel.

Mizzna's mother Alanudd was one of the most popular Arabian horses here in the UAE and perhaps one of the greatest Arabians and won the Kahayla Classic three consecutive times.

Madjani has also won this premier race for Arabian horses thrice and Mizzna is probably one of those standing between Madjani and a record fourth consecutive win.

Tadhg O'Shea who partnered her in two of her four wins this season will ride Mizzna.

Big race

Lemartinel also has Baher in the race and Gerard Avranche will be aboard the seven-year old son of Tidjani, the horse that has also sired Madjani.

"I am not worried about the draw as there are only nine runners.

"Mizzna has done exceptionally well and has been spot on in her preparation," said Lemartinel, a former jump jockey in France.

Lemartinel also brushed aside doubts cast over Mizzna's ability to tackle the surface and the distance.

"Mizzna has run a mile on dirt this season and has beat good opposition including Kandar Du Falgas in a Group 2 race.

"She will not have any problem and she did well last year when finishing third to Madjani," he said.

"If you have seen the races she comes up strong and the way she finished the mile I am sure she has enough to last the extra two furlongs.

"Mizzna will run a big race on Saturday," the Frenchman, who has been based in Abu Dhabi since 2006, said.

Mizzna's career record reads an impressive 8 wins, four second place finishes and one third place in her 13 starts - always in the top three!
