Dubai: Gulf News, a long-standing supporter of horse racing, pays a second visit to Meydan Racecourse in less than a week to sponsor Thursday’s $860,000 (Dh3.15 million) Dubai World Cup six-race card.

The newspaper, which is the title sponsor of the $2 million Dubai Gold Shaheen on Dubai World Cup night, will be supporting the Dubai Showjumping Championships later this month.

“The racing season has truly set in and we are back at Meydan within ten days of our last sponsored card,” Duleep George, Executive Director Strategy and Marketing, Gulf News, said.

“This time, we are sponsoring a Dubai World Cup Carnival card and it is very special as our feature race will be the first running of the Group 2 Al Fahidi Fort at its new distance of 1400m. The Carnival card is a suitable warm-up for the Dubai World Cup in March, when we will return with our race the Group 1 Dubai Golden Shaheen.”

Malih Al Basti, Meydan Group Board Member and Chairman of the Racing Committee, said: “This Thursday offers an exciting and high-class evening of international racing sponsored by our long-term partners, Gulf News.

“Horse racing owes a debt of gratitude to supporters like Gulf News, whose continued investment in all aspects of equestrian sport helps secure a bright future for the equine industry in this country.”
