Dubai: Godolphin Classic hope Be Ready’s poor show in the Craven Stakes at Newmarket, London, last Thursday has been blamed a cardiac condition that he suffered during the race.
After Saeed Bin Surour’s colt finished last he was subjected to veterinary tests, which determined he had experienced an ‘atrial fibrillation’, a condition which decreases the heart’s stroke volume under pressure.
A statement on Godolphin website said: “Be Ready’s cardiac rhythm had returned to normal this morning (on Friday) and the three-year-old will undergo a heart scan and other tests this afternoon by a leading specialist in equine internal medicine, Celia Marr.
“This is to make sure there are no residual problems. Be Ready’s heart rhythm during exercise will be monitored when he returns to training.
“Atrial fibrillation is a fairly common irregularity of the heart rhythm in racehorses. During an episode, the horse is unable to perform to his usual standard. But, in most horses, it is a one-off event and the prognosis is good for a complete recovery of previous race form.”
Marr has recently been used by Nicky Henderson to assist with multiple Grade 1 winning hurdler Sprinter Sacre’s recovery from a similar problem.
