Dubai: Forjaat emphatically secured his place alongside some of the best horses ever trained by Jebel Ali Stable’s maestro Dhruba Selvaratnam when posting a rousing victory in the Shadwell Farm Handicap, the feature race on the final day’s racing at the track.

Making his seventh start of the campaign, the eight-year-old son of Iffraj found a gap in a closely bunched field of six and kicked clear to post his 10th career victory from 36 starts.

Fifth on his last outing in the Group 2 Zabeel Mile during the Dubai World Cup Carnival, Selvaratnam’s star held a stalking position at the tail of the field under Chris Hayes, before making on his run at the two furlong pole to prevail over Los Barbados (Wayne Smith), Haatheq (Paul Hanagan) and Mizbah (Pat Dobbs) in a thrilling four-horse finish.

However, Hayes said the distances did not tell the true picture.

“He probably makes it look harder than it actually is. I don’t think he’s had that hard a race,” said the Irishman. “The one frustrating thing about him is he pulls up once in front although he has the ability to go on and win by two to three lengths.

“He’s really genuine. In my opinion he’ll go further and further. It’s not easy around here obviously, but nine furlongs here is a good as ten anywhere else with that stiff uphill finish. But he’s so used to it as he trains here seven days a week,” Hayes added.

“If there were just nine or ten more like him in the stable, and if they were all as genuine as him, it will make my job easier.”

Selvaratnam admitted that Forjatt was by far the most consistent he has ever trained and was right up there with former Jebel Ali champs like Faltaat, Ramp And Rave, Try Prospect, Mudallel and Seihali.

“He’s a small horse with a big heart and he’s such a pleasure to train,” said Selvaratnam, who has enjoyed a fantastic season with 18 winners and 35 placings.

“He really loves his racing and we will look forward to bringing him back next season. It’s a nice way to end the season with a win like this.”

The Commercial Bank of Dubai was won by Super Saturday’s Group 3 Mahab Al Shimaal victory Shaishee, who made all under Paul Hanagan.

Doug Watson picked up his 54th win of the season when Just A Penny easily won the opening School Transport Services LLC Handicap.

The mount of Pat Dobbs’ was recording a third straight victory and fourth this season, all of which have come at Jebel Ali.

“We always thought he was a really nice horse,” said Watson. “He has really thrived here at Jebel Ali and it is a shame there is no more racing here this season.

“He will obviously go up in grade next time but, hopefully, he can cope with that.”

The Roma Capannelle Racecourse Handicap saw the Ahmad bin Harmash-trained Rich And Righteous losing his maiden tag on his 11th career outing.

A small field of five went to post in the Al Shafar Investment LLC Handicap and Speedy Move made a winning debut for trainer Satish Seemar.

The final race of the Jebel Ali season the Creech Inc conditions was won comfortably by 2012 Dubai Golden Shaheen star Krypton Factor.
