Dubai: A trio of horses with Dubai connections can announce themselves as future superstars by delivering a big performance in Friday’s Dubai Dewhurst Stakes, one of three glittering Group 1 contests that highlight Dubai Future Champions Day at Newmarket Racecourse.

Past winners of the £400,000 race include high achievers like Dawn Approach, Frankel and Rock Of Gibraltar, and Estidihkaar, Secret Brief and Maftool, will be looking to follow in their illustrious footsteps by stamping their class on the 1,400m contest which was established 139 years ago.

Secret Brief is owned by Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, while Maftool represents Godolphin, who won the seven furlong contest in 2012 with Dawn Approach.

The unbeaten Estidhkaar, already a dual Group 2 winner, bids to give Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance, a third Dewhurst trophy following Alhaarth in 1995 and Mujahid in 1998.

The Dewhurst is Britain’s most prestigious event for juveniles and together with the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes and the Group 1 Dubai Fillies’ Mile, ensures that Friday’s is one of the most anticipated events on the British racing calendar.

All eyes will be on the Richard Hannon-trained Estidhkaar, winner of the Superlative Stakes at Newmarket and the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster, who can crown what has been a vintage season for Shaikh Hamdan, whose colours have been carried to victory in top races like the King George and Oaks (Taghrooda) and Coral-Eclipse Stakes (Mukhadram).

Reviewing Estidihkaar’s chances against his six rivals including Polytrack Listed winner Smuggler’s Cove and Ascot scorer Kodi Bear, Shaikh Hamdan’s racing manager Angus Gold said: “Estdihkaar is all set for the Dewhurst. They think he’s in good form, the ground will suit him and the trip will suit him, so we’re hopeful of a big run.”

Emirati handler Saeed Bin Surour, who is looking for his first success in the contes said: “Maftool is doing really well and I was very pleased with his final piece of work coming into this race.

“He is racing against some of the best two-year-olds around but deserves to take his chance following his victory in the Somerville Tattersall Stakes.

“He looks very well at the moment and I am looking forward to seeing how he gets on in a big race like this.”

Lucida heads a three-strong Godolphin challenge in the Dubai Fillies’ Mile, a race that the stable have won on three times in the past four years with Certify (2012), Lyrice of Light (2011) and White Moonstone (2010),

Trained by Irish great Jim Bolger Lucida finished runner-up in the Group 1 Moyglarebefore thaking the Group 2 Rockfel Stakes at this course last month.

Good Place, trained by Charlie Appleby, caught the eye in the Hyperion Fillies’ Conditions Stakes at Ascot, while Saaed Bin Surour gives Winters Moon looks open top improvement.

The Group 1 Middle Park has attracted seven starters with the Charlie Hills-trained Gimcrack Stakes (G2) hoping to maintain Shaikh Hamdan’s high level of success with his sizeable juvenile string.

Unbeaten juvenile Ivawood looks the one to beat.
