Dubai: Commercial Bank of Dubai (CBD) continues its support of the 2013 Dubai World Cup Carnival by sponsoring the entire six-race card on UAE Oaks day.

The 1,900m contest, which is open to three-year-old fillies, is the third UAE Classic of the season, following the UAE 1000 and UAE 2000 Guineas.

The six high quality races, two of which will be run on turf with the other four taking place on the all-weather, carry a total purse of $935,000 (Dh3.43 million).

Highlighting the bank’s commitment to UAE racing Yaqoob Yousuf Hassan, its Deputy Chief Executive, said: “Commercial Bank of Dubai continues to be an integral part of one of the most exciting sporting events in the country — indeed, in the entire Gulf region.

“We are delighted to take our sponsorship of this eagerly-awaited event into the seventh year. We are also proud to say that CBD is a patron of the upcoming Dubai World Cup Carnival.

“The Meydan event now has a place of prominence on the international racing calendar, and our association with it is based on our belief that CBD should take a leading position in every aspect of UAE life, not just in the financial sector,” he added.

“Supporting sports and cultural activities is a priority for our corporate social responsibility, as they engage the youth, enhance the country’s reputation on the world stage and unite all the nationalities that live here, making for a more cohesive and happier community.

“I express my thanks to Dubai Racing Club and the Meydan Group for welcoming us to partner with them. And we wish great success to all the competitors at this state-of-the-art venue. We hope that racing fans, their families and friends enjoy this season at Meydan, which ends — like every year — with the world’s richest horse race, the Dubai World Cup, on March 30, 2013.”

Malih Al Basti, Meydan Group Board Member and Chairman of the Meydan Racing Committee said: “We have a long-standing and highly-successful relationship with CBD that reaches back to 2006 and it is with great pleasure that I welcome the bank back to Meydan for our 2013 Dubai World Cup Carnival season.

“CBD also supports our domestic Racing at Meydan season and it is this kind of long-term commitment from forward-thinking organisations such as CBD that helps ensure the development and growth of an industry which carries strong cultural and historical associations for the UAE

“This is the eighth fixture of the 11 meeting Dubai World Cup Carnival and we look forward to another high-quality and exciting card.”

Admission is free to the public areas of Meydan and hospitality tickets start at Dh25. Gates open at 5pm and the first race starts at 6.30pm.
