Dubai: Green Stables trainer Ewan Charpy said a long-awaited win with Versac Py would be even sweeter given a history of near misses.
The seven-year-old horse has finished second in five of his last six races and has also finished fourth and second in the last two Kahayla Classics on World Cup night. Charpy is now desperate for Versac Py to rid himself of the bridesmaid’s tag in this Saturday’s edition.
“He’s breaking my heart, but he’s running a blinder every time,” said Charpy. “I’ve had him since the beginning when he started out rated 55 and he has climbed the ladder all the way.
“It’s always fantastic to win with any horse, but when you have made the horse it’s different. Those are the kind of horses when you’re the first to get them and put a lot of work and effort into getting them there, that make it more rewarding.
“He’s come on mentally and we are doing a lot of things differently to try and inject a quicker turn of foot into him, he responded with a sharper final straight the last time out, so hopefully it will pay off.”
